The word Canada comes from the Huron-Iroquois kanata, meaning a village or settlement. The explorer Jacques Cartier used the name Canada to refer to the area around the settlement which is now Quebec-city.
Canada is also a founding member of the United Nations and has been active in a number of major UN agencies and other worldwide operations. As the country is influenced by both, American and European culture it will be a really exciting experience to learn English in Canada. With its vast Arctic and subarctic territories, Canada is often considered to be a country only of the far north. Due to Canada's vast size, temperatures vary immensely from region to region and even within the different regions. The climate ranges from humid continental in the south to sub arctic in the north. But although there seems to be a mixture of the British, French and American way of living you will still discover more influences when you learn English in Canada: Increased immigration from other European countries, Southeast Asia, and Latin America especially in the 20th century Canada became even more broadly multicultural.
