To learn English in Malta has numerous reasons, actually it is one of the major destinations to do so in Europe and as the country offers a lot, Malta is known to be an open-air museum. For a country this small, the Maltese islands are richly endowed with archaeological sites, historical monuments, magnificent churches, opulent palaces and museums. Additionally, in recent years new attractions have also been opened to the public, including multi-vision shows and theme presentations being visited every year not only by tourists but also by countless people taking language courses in Malta.
The Maltese archipelago is situated in the middle of the Mediterranean. The three most important islands are the mainland Malta as well as Gozo and Comino being the only other inhabited islands. The landscape of all three is characterised by low hills with terraced fields. Malta with its capital Valetta has no mountains or rivers. Its coastline is indented with harbours, bays, creeks, sandy beaches and rocky coves. Gozo is connected to Malta by ferry and is more thickly vegetated, with many flat-topped hills and craggy cliffs. Comino, the smallest island, is connected to Malta and Gozo by ferry and is very sparsely populated.
Malta enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and mild winters. It is warm and healthy. There are no biting winds, fog, snow or frost. Rain falls for only very short periods, another reason why it is so popular to learn English in Malta. The island is seldom too hot even in the height of summer as hot summer days and nights are regularly tempered by cool breezes from the sea. The yearly average temperature is 26 degrees Celsius. Bathing in the sea is often possible well into the winter season and the height of the beach season can last till the end of October what many people do while attending to language courses in Malta.
The Maltese welcome the company of foreigners and being helpful to them comes naturally. Also, they take great interest in what is happening in the rest of the world, and, with their flair for languages, communication with visitors is easy. They have an admirable sense of humor and like most Mediterranean people, tend to be rather jovial.
Mediterranean culture is dominant in Malta, but of course nearly 150 years of British rule have also left their mark. Therefore Maltese and English are both official languages. Because of the mixture of these cultures it is a very special experience to learn English in Malta and certainly unforgettable.
