1 - Language School Overview :
Lethbridge Community College was founded in 1957 as Canada’s first community college and offers ESL and over 75 other career and university transfer programs. The English Language Centre has been successfully providing ESL training for over 35 years; students can study academic ESL for full or partial semesters throughout the year. LCC also offers a 200,000 volume library and media centre, triple gymnasium, fitness centre/weight room, cafeteria and restaurant, computer and science laboratories, student’s recreation facilities and lounges, free internet and email access, and counselling services. Students in ESL can stay with warm and welcoming host families that are personally selected by ESL staff. If a student applies at least six months in advance, they can also stay in the College Residence. ESL courses are intensive and offered at all levels. 2 - Location :
The College is located at the south end of the city on a 57-hectare campus resting on Southern Alberta’s majestic coulees overlooking the Oldman River and the Rocky Mountains to the west. Lethbridge has a population of over 70,000, and is the service centre of Southern Alberta. It can be reached by air, with daily 30-minute flights from Calgary, Alberta to the Lethbridge Airport, or you may wish to rent a car or take a bus for the two-hour drive south from Calgary. Either way, the trip is unforgettable, with mountains and rolling hills to the west, and waving wheat fields to the east. Lethbridge offers everything of a much larger city, including shopping malls, live theatre, symphony orchestra, nightclubs and much more. Warm westerly winds called 'chinooks' create warm summers and mild winters, so the climate is temperate by Canadian standards. Adventurous newcomers to Lethbridge are but a short distance from Rocky Mountain national parks and ski resorts, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and an abundance of natural scenery that invites outdoor living.
