1 - Language School Overview :
Aspiring Language Institute is one of the oldest schools in Christchurch, established in 1989.
Judy Kollar and Robert Zuch are the owners and directors of the school, assisted in daily management by the administration team and by the academic staff.
We are registered with the New Zealand Ministry of Education to teach English to foreign students.
It is our commitment to keep our character of a small school. Aspiring Language Institute has no more than 70 students enrolled at any one time. The maximum class size is 10, with an average class size of 8, to ensure individual attention for each student.
We do not accept group enrolments. Individual adult students (minimum 18 years) and their agents are welcome to apply. We maintain a well-balanced nationality mix of European and Asian students. Usually we have students from Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan, Germany, Korea, Thailand and other countries. We expect that students use English at all times when at school (also between lessons).
We pay individual attention to the needs of each student, and at the same time put great importance on creating a family-like atmosphere. Our setting is a home with a garden, rather than an office block.
The majority of Aspiring students are aged between 20 and 30, but we also have older visitors (35-65 years old). Study at Aspiring is particularly recommended for independent travellers with good basic English, planning to improve their fluency or pass international exams while exploring New Zealand.

Aspiring Language Institute is located in Christchurch, the largest city of New Zealand’s South Island. The city has approximately 300,000 inhabitants. It is known as “the most English city outside England” because of its population and architecture.
Christchurch, nested between the Pacific Ocean and the Southern Alps, offers many opportunities for outdoor sports and for city cultural activities.
The Institute is located in Merivale, near the centre of Christchurch. It is an exclusive and elegant middle class residential area. Most facilities (banks, shops, cafes, library, gym, cinema) are near the Institute. A bus stop outside the school allows for a quick trip downtown (5-10 minutes), while a walk downtown takes about 20 minutes.
