1 - Language School Overview :
The ELC was established in 1997 by Hugh and Judy MacDermot with the aim of offering top quality courses in a friendly and professional atmosphere and in beautiful surroundings.
We are fully Accredited by the British Council, are members of English UK(formerly ARELS). We offer courses in General English, English for Examinations (FCE, IELTS etc), Business English, Summer Programmes for Adults & Juniors.
We also train teachers on CELTA & DELTA Courses (validated by the University of Cambridge Local Exams Syndicate)and have a Teachers' Refresher Course in the Summer.
Our teaching team are well-qualified, dynamic and very enthusiastic professionals. Above all, they will take a friendly interest in you and your studies.
2 - Location :
The ELC occupies a historic Georgian Town House built in 1750 and carefully adapted for use as a language school. It is situated inside the 700 year-old walls in the heart of the most historic part of the ancient city of York.
We have 6 International Airports within 2 hours, and are only 2 hours by train from London and Edinburgh. Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay and other East-coast resorts are within an hour or so. Other local attractions include the North Yorkshire Moors, historic houses such as Harewood and Castle Howard, and many well-known cities & towns such as Leeds, Harrogate and Newcastle.
