1 - Language School Overview :
Volunteer Bolivia´s language school and cultural center is located in the heart of downtown Cochabamba´s social district. At the center students learn Spanish while exploring such themes as Bolivian history, human rights, local environmental issues and current events.
Classes are available for all levels of students. Students are grouped by ability with no more than three in a class. There is also one on one instruction available. Language level is determined in an informal oral and written interview with a member of the teaching staff.
The center’s teachers work in teams, using materials that we have developed to teach both conversation and grammar. Our professors have more than 15 years of experience and are trained in teaching Spanish as a second language using a participatory methodology.
The objectives of our program are:
• Teach students to speak and understand Spanish within a political, social and cultural context.
• Broaden the student’s understanding of the complex political situation in Bolivia.
• Encourage students to participate in the wide variety of cultural, social and political activities in the community.
• Immerse students in Bolivian culture.
Classes are held in our cultural center Monday through Friday. We offer a flexible schedule in both the mornings and afternoons.

Volunteer Bolivia is based in the heart of downtown Cochabamba’s social district. The third largest city in Bolivia, Cochabamba is home to approximately 800,000 people and the largest open-air market in the country. Nestled in a high valley (8,430 ft./ 2570 ms.) and surrounded by numerous farming villages, the department of Cochabamba produces a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. This combined with the Mediterranean climate (temp. mean 66F/19C) throughout the year makes it a highly desirable place to spend time getting to know the country.
