Casa Xalteva Study Center - Spanish language school in Granada, Nicaragua

Casa Xalteva is an intensive Spanish language school offering small classes with native speakers from Nicargua, homestays with local families, and volunteer opportunities. We are a non-profit educational foundation, and all proceeds from the classes go to support our Nicarguan staff and families, and for programs that benefit Nicaraguan children. We provide food and shelter, clothing, medical care, and educational scholarships for impoverished children. Classes begin each Monday during the year, and are taught at all levels from beginning to advanced. The maximum class size is 4 students, and the average is 2 students per class. Our teachers are young Nicaraguans specially trained to work with international students. Our students come from all backgrounds and age groups. About half are U.S. and Canadian, one quarter European and one quarter from other parts of the world. Our homestay families are carefully chosen to offer clean, safe, healthy and friendly environments for our students. Volunteer work opportunities are available in a number of community organizations, including those working with children, women, environmental and cultural issues. We have been providing the highest quality Spanish instruction and support services for students for the past years. References from former students are available upon request.

Granada is a safe and charming colonial city located on the shores of Lake Nicaragua about one hour south of Managua, the Nicarguan capital city. Known for its beauty, hospitality and relaxed atmosphere, Granada is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world, yet it is not overrun with foreigners. The people of Granada are welcoming and friendly. Granada has a wide variety of recreational and sightseeing opportunities. Mombacho volcano, with its coffee plantations and tropical rainforest, is just outside of town. In the lake just offshore, there are more than 400 small, tree covered islands perfect for boating, swimming and exploring. The market town of Masaya and the Mayasa Volcanic National Park are a few minutes away. From Granada there is easy access by boat to the island of Omotepe, with its two volcanoes and nature preserve. The Pacific beach resorts of San Juan del Sur and Poneloya are an hour and a half by car or bus. Granada is also known for its cafes, restaurants and cultural facilities, including the Casa de los Leones, a cultural center that offers concerts, art exhibits, music and art lessons for adults and children.
