From its foundation in 1989, IEMA has specialized in courses in Spanish language and culture. The courses are recognized and appreciated worldwide and many organizations, private and public, collaborate with IEMA. IEMA has received numerous distinctions for quality, it is awarded with the CEELE Quality Certificate by University of Alcalá and accredited by Instituto Cervantes (Associated Member). IEMA cooperates with Madrid Chamber of Commerce in different Spanish programmes (courses and exams in Business Spanish, Spanish for Tourism and Medicine). Our Institute is the official examination centre for the International Spanish Diploma (FIDESCU and Universidad Pontifical of Salamanca). We are one of the first language schools in Spain adapting our methodology and teaching materials to the requirements of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. When contracting our teachers we do not make any compromises. You are taught by qualified and professional Spanish teachers who are trained to take away student’s fear of talking in Spanish and motivate them to learn more. Furthermore, our teachers have years of valuable pedagogical experience, they regularly take part in workshops and they also train foreign teachers of Spanish. All classes take place in a historic building, which dates back to the 13th century and is protected by UNESCO. We converted it into a modern education centre. Our school has, among other facilities, the following: spacious well lit classrooms, library, video room, internet, fireplace room, Spanish patio, kitchen, entrance hall in Mudéjar style and a terrace garden with a barbecue which all adds up to a programme full of unforgettable experiences. IEMA is orientated towards your individual requirements and is not aimed at “mass education”. Your personal attention is guaranteed.

Ávila, a wonderful, charming and best conserved medieval Spanish city, located in the historic region of Castilla y León, speaks volumes to its visitors through the impressive monuments, its magnificent art and diverse history. All of this has won the city the title of “City of World Heritage”. This city singularly offers ideal surroundings for cultural programmes such as the total immersion courses offered by the Spanish Institute. Although it has only 50,000 inhabitants, it is often thought of as a “Spain in miniature”: one can still recognize the traditional Spanish structures and due to its smaller size you can find and study here all aspects and sectors of Spain - impossible in larger cities. Ávila offers you a great advantage: “Castellano” - a pure, official Spanish is spoken here (not a dialect) and it is an important landmark of Castillian Route. Up to now, Ávila has not been adversely affected by tourism and is not saturated with foreign students, so it is easy to get to know here Spanish speaking local people (e. g. Students of Catholic University of Ávila, different faculties of Salamanca University and Police Academy). It is one of the safest cities in Spain and creates a perfect atmosphere for young people - a great combination of tranquillity and entertainment (over 350 bars and discotheques). The geographical location of Ávila is ideal for excursions which are no more than one and a half hours drive to places such as Madrid, Segovia, Salamanca, Toledo, Sierra de Gredos or El Escorial - the centre of the world in the times of Felipe II. The city offers a large number of various cultural festivities throughout the whole year.
