The School of Modern Languages UAB Barcelona is a part of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). It specialises in teaching modern languages. UAB Barcelona is located in the historic building UAB Casa Convalescència, which is part of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau modernist complex, situated in the central area of the city known as the Eixample. This complex, which is close to the Sagrada Família Cathedral, began to be built in 1905 and was inaugurated in 1930. The Hospital and our building were declared listed buildings in 1978. In 1997 they were granted the honour of becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site , as an important example of Modernist architecture by the architect Luis Domènech i Muntaner, a contemporary of the famous Antoni Gaudí.
Casa Convalescència is a unique building, rich in modernist elements, featuring stained glass that illuminates the monumental entrance hall and cupola, as well as the ornate tile work in the ground floor halls and meeting rooms.
The UAB was given the right to use the building for academic activities in 1969 and the building was fully renovated in 1998 in order to allow all the functions of a modern academic centre, while preserving the details of its historic past.
The building has 35 classrooms and 4 lecture halls, equipped with multi-media technology and audiovisual and support material. There is also a free access multimedia room with high-speed Internet connections.
Nowadays, the UAB Casa Convalescència is an impressive academic centre, housing the UAB Foundation, the Institute of Education Sciences, the PhD and Continuing Education School as well as the Doctor Robert Foundation and the Josep Laporte Library. The building is also the main site for the UAB's professional continuing education and postgraduate education programmes and it also offers international conference facilities.

How to get there
Airport pick-ups
UAB Barcelona is pleased to offer a meet and greet service for students arriving at Barcelona airport and Sants railway station. Courses always start on Monday morning, but we can arrange for you to be picked up on any day of the week. Barcelona El Prat International Airport is located 20 km away from the city centre and about 25 km from the UAB Campus accommodation facilities at Bellaterra.

UAB Barcelona can be reached by metro and bus from all areas of the city in a short time. Metro stations Hospital Sant Pau and Guinardò are the closest, with buses 15,19,20,45,47,50,51 passing nearby.
