1 - Language School Overview :
Sherwood is a small school with a solid reputation for excellent language teaching. All teachers are native speakers of the language they are teaching and are highly qualified.
The school is run by a Spanish-English husband and wife team. Jane Bailey is the director of studies and holds an MA in Applied Linguistics, teaches at the Open University of Catalonia and is a writer of language teaching material for schools in Spain.
Group sizes are small (the average number is 4 students) which enables us to follow a highly communicative methodology and to ensure that the teacher can carefully monitor and facilitate individual progress.
We select the material we use very carefully and, particularly in the case of intensive courses, produce our own tailor-made courses.
The two main languages we teach are English and Spanish. For English, we have the best pass rate for our students taking official examinations. And for Spanish, our reputation has brought us students such as the singer-songwriter Sheryl Crowe and cyclists from the US Postal team.
2 - Location :
The school is situated in centre of Girona, 2 minutes walk from the Rambla and the old part of the city and only 5 minutes from the station and bus station.
Girona is only a 45-minute bus ride from the Costa Brava (less by car) and is an hour away from Barcelona. The area around Girona is ideal for walking in the hills and the city itself is full of charm and character. It has excellent museums, shops, restaurants, and the Barri Vell (old quarter) is full of historical interest as well as boasting some of the finest architecture in Catalonia.
Many students combine classes in the morning with lunch in the city and afternoons on the coast, and we can help to arrange accommodation and afternoon activities, if required.
