The Instituto Intercultural del Caribe (IIC) is the Spanish Department of the German-Dominican Language and Culture Institute EDASE. Founded in 1994, it has become one of the major institutions in the Dominican Republic offering Spanish as a foreign language.
IIC is an intercultural institute teaching Spanish to foreigners and in the same building English and German to Dominicans through the company's English/German section, the CASA GOETHE. One of the institute’s aims is to bring together foreign and Dominican students for an intercultural exchange and for practicing newly-acquired language skills.
With a school in the capital Santo Domingo and one in Sosua at the north coast of the island, IIC offers its students the great possibility to study at two different places and discover this beautiful island in its splendid diversity.

Santo Domingo is a fascinating, typical Caribbean metropolis. If one wants to combine his Spanish studies with acquiring a deeper insight into the cultural and social aspects of Dominican everyday life, then Santo Domingo could be the best choice to make. Students there can explore museums, the colonial zone and a bustling night-life.
IIC-Santo Domingo is located in the university zone in the immediate vicinity of the UASD, the country’s biggest and most famous university. This is without a doubt the reason for the easy-going and relaxed ambiance that reigns around the institute. There is plenty of opportunity to come into contact with Dominican students at any one of the various street cafes or kiosks in the area.
The class- and communal rooms are furnished in a simple, but cosy way. A small garden surrounds the institute, together with terraces offering students a personal and friendly environment.
