Bildungsurlaub
'Bildungsurlaub' is a German government programme that allows employees in Germany to take 5 days of additional vacation for further education in relation to their job. So far, this programme is valid in the following twelve German federal states:
|
Berlin
Brandenburg
Bremen
Hamburg
Hessen
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern |
Niedersachsen
Nordrhein-Westfalen
Rheinland-Pfalz
Saarland
Sachsen-Anhalt
Schleswig-Holstein |
This programme can be applied to a language course under the precondition that the respective course is officially recognised in the federal state where the employer is located. In general only language courses with at least 30 lessons per week on 5 consecutive days are recognised, however, the specific regulations for the accreditation vary from state to state. You can find information about our schools that offer such accredited courses under the 'All schools' section
You are entitled to participate in this programme if you are already working for the company for at least 6 months. The claim compounds 5 working days per year, though, usually, the claim of two years is merged to facilitate the participation in a two-weeks course.
If you would like to attend such a language course, you should inform your employer well before the starting date - in general at least 6 weeks before the course begins. . |
